Musical Saw Class

I took my first musical saw class yesterday with Danny Moynahan at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica.

And today I made a carrying case for my bow out of an old batik skirt from Bali <3

Danny suggested converting a rifle case to carry the saw... but I guess I can worry about that after I get good enough to warrant leaving our backyard hahaha =)

Dancing in Hollerado's music video

It is a rare occasion that I would be IN a music video instead of EDITING it... but somehow the planets aligned and I found myself in silver sequins booty shorts, twirling an umbrella with the Atomic Cherry Bombs behind the indie rock band Hollerado.

The video was directed by Greg Jardin @radical.media - and we shot it at The Historic Jim Henson Company Lot on the Charlie Chaplin Stage! The song is called "Got To Lose" and it just went live on YouTube today =) Good times!

My First Homemade Vegetable Stock

Ingredients:
1-2 onions
2-3 carrots
3-4 celery stalks
4-5 sprigs fresh thyme
1 bay leaf
1 small bunch parsley
1 teaspoon whole peppercorns

Grandma Style Killer Grilled Cheese

We just got our first box of Dave's Killer Bread today!! Katie turned us on to it over the holidays up in Spokane and we ordered some immediately. First thing after opening the box I made myself some grilled cheese - adapted McFarland style from my Grandma Lee's open face grilled cheese that she used to make for us as kids.

Grandma Style Killer Grilled Cheese

Ingredients:
Dave's Killer "Good Seed" Bread
Earth Balance Organic Buttery Spread
Tillamook White Extra Sharp Cheddar

Lightly toast the bread, put it back in the toaster for round two with a light spread of Earth Balance and a layer of cheese on top. When cheese is melted...cut in half and serve open face.

No-Bake Sunflower-Oat Bars

makes one 8x8-inch pan

4 cups old fashioned rolled oats (gluten-free if desired)
1 cup raw sunflower seeds
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup dried bananas; diced
1/2 cup dried blueberries
1 cup sunflower seed butter
1/2 cup raw agave nectar

Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl. Stir in sunflower seed butter and agave nectar until well combined. Press into an 8 x 8-inch pan and refrigerate until firm. Cut into bars and enjoy. Store in fridge (or freezer for longer storage)."

Dog Treats

Makes about 2 dozen

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup brewer's yeast
2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons canola oil
1 1/2 cups chicken stock

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment. Combine flour, wheat germ, brewer's yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Place canola oil in a large bowl. Add flour mixture to oil in 3 additions, alternating with 1 cup stock; mix until combined.

Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 2 minutes (dough will be sticky). Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters. Transfer to baking sheets. Freeze for 15 minutes. Bake for 20 minutes, rotating sheets and lightly brushing with remaining 1/2 cup chicken stock halfway through. Turn oven off, and let stand in oven for 40 minutes.
